Ingredient Screening Process
Every ingredient must pass our strict screening process. If an ingredient fails any of these, it is excluded.

We scrutinize every ingredient for comedogenic risk using previous clinical research and firsthand formulation testing. If it’s even related or derived to a known pore-clogger, it’s out. If we can't be 100% confident that it won't clog pores, promote congestion, or trigger breakouts, it is immediately rejected—no exceptions.

We rigorously screen for known irritants—especially essential oils, fragrance, volatiles, sensates and harsh surfactants. Any ingredient with the potential to provoke inflammation or disrupt the skin’s barrier balance is removed from consideration instantly. The formula is also third-party tested (HRIPT) to be non-sensitizing.

We choose only lipids and emulsifiers that reinforce—not deplete—the barrier, prioritizing replenishing ingredients like natural actives, glycerin, and plant-based squalane that work in harmony with the skin’s own design.

We take a zero-tolerance approach to endocrine disruptors. Any ingredient shown, or even suspected, to interfere with hormonal balance is excluded. Our formulas are designed to support skin health without compromising the body’s natural equilibrium.

We do not formulate with any ingredient universally flagged as toxic or unsafe. We align with Sephora Clean standards and ensure every component rates well on EWG, giving you formulas that meet safety benchmarks without skin compromise.
What Makes Us Different
Many brands use looser standards and still call their products “acne-safe” and "non-irritating." At Delicate Matter, we hold a higher bar. We go beyond the outdated research and evaluate everything: an ingredient’s pH, molecular size, chain length, irritation profile, and how it interacts with sensitized, acne-prone skin. If it’s not unquestionably safe, we leave it out. Our goal is to reduce risk as much as possible.
